17 Things To Consider When Renovating Your Bathroom.

From planning to plumbing, there are so many things to consider when renovating your bathroom. We have scoured the internet to share with you the top 17 things to consider when renovating your bathroom.

1.  Plan, plan, plan!

Planning is the most critical step. Do not skimp on this! From drawings to light fittings, plan it all.

2. Budget.

Always consider budget. For example, will you use the existing plumbing or relocate some points? Work out your budget then see what works within that. If you are over budget, look where you can cut corners without jeopardising  the integrity of the renovation.

3. Permits.

Do you require any? Building, Electrical, plumbing ? Triple check this!

4. Timeline.

How long do you have to get this completed? Add extra time for things that go wrong (because they will!)

5. Removal of Rubbish.

Who, what and where will you store the rubbish if you are demolishing your existing bathroom.

6. The Look And Style.

Know your look and style – and stick with it. Don't get distracted by new shiny objects! Stick to what you know you will be happy seeing day in and day out that you can mix up with new decor if need be.

7. Size And Layout

How many people will be using the bathroom? If it's a family bathroom, it needs to be functional over fancy.

8. Tradespeople.

Excellent tradespeople make the difference. Decide if/where you can do the work yourself (waterproofing and tiling for example) or when it is time to outsource. Don’t cut corners here, especially when it comes to plumbing and electrical.

9. Flooring.

From removal, or any repairs, to what new flooring you wish to install, there is lots to consider here.  Floorboards, tiling or something else? Remember it has to match, look good but not show every piece of hair or fluff either! The last thing you want is to have to clean the floors every day.

10. Your Fixtures and Fittings.

From tap-ware and door handles to the toilet paper holder, Keep in sync with your design but ensure they are functional for everyone who will be using them, of all ages.

11. Heating.

Is this an option? Consider heated towel rails or a ceiling heater in the light if required.

12. Ventilation.

SO important, especially if there are no windows in the bathroom. Ensure the fans used comply and are strong enough for the area of the room.

13. Mirror.

You will look into it every day so ensure it not only suits the layout of the bathroom, but it's the perfect size as well. Will it contain storage?

14. Towel Racks,

Ensure you have enough wall space for these, especially if for a large family. If you decide on heated racks, remember you need access to electrical.

15. Lighting.

Natural lighting is always best! However, if there is little light, consider a skylight or very good lighting over the vanity, AND the shower.

16. Storage

From Cut-outs in the shower to above the door storage, you can never have too much storage!
